Rubenstein says she edits a magazine that is meant to empower girls and not exploit them. She says another problem is that it adds to kids' obsessions with the way they look and adds to the problem of growing up in a society dedicated to bodily perfection and sex appeal. Hymowitz says modeling encourages kids to grow up too quickly. Hymowitz says, in some serious cases, it can even lead to eating disorders and the sexualization of young girls. The end result, according to her, is not healthy. On the other side of the issue, Hymowitz says innocence is lost when young girls model. ![]() ![]() In fact, she thinks modeling is one of the best career moves a young girl can make. Rubenstein says she is completely in favor of young girls modeling, as long as they are well parented. Cosmo Girl magazine's Editor-in-Chief Atoosa Rubenstein and Kay Hymowitz, author of "Ready or Not: What Happens When We Treat Children as Small Adults," paid a visit to The Early Show Tuesday to discuss the benefits and dangers of young girls strutting the catwalk alongside older women.
